Check out this super easy, natural orange vanilla “Dreamsicle” bath bomb recipe. I LOVE crafting and DIY projects.I’ve always loved doing crafts and creating things since I was a child and now as an adult I am so happy there are so many craft projects you can create as an adult. Personally, I think bath bombs are a gift that will never go out of style (or just to use for yourself) . Making something yourself or making a gift for someone is so satisfying, not to mention meaningful for gifting. You can personalize, add special little touches etc. to make it personal. It’s surprisingly easy and low cost to make bath bombs and these “Orange Vanilla Dreamsicle” bath bombs are my favourite! They smell SO good and are so easy to make.
What you will need:
- Ingredients:
- 1 cup baking soda
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup vanilla scented epsom salt (or you can use plain epsom salt and add vanilla fragrance oil)
- ½ cup corn starch
- 1 tsp water
- 2 tsp essential oil (I used orange essential oil because my epsom salt is vanilla scented but you can use 1 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp orange)
- 2 tsp oil (I used sweet almond oil, but you can use coconut oil or whatever body safe oil you prefer)
- Few drops of soap colouring
- Tools:
- 2 mixing bowls
- Mixing Utensil
- Moulds ( I bought aluminium bath bomb moulds from amazon.ca for 19.99 and they worked amazing BUT you can also use any sort of silicone mold)
Where I purchased the items used:
Note: I am from Canada and I have found it can sometimes be more difficult to find things that people from America use. ( If you watch American youtubers or follow Americans on pinterest) So, this is where I purchased my items as a Canadian gal.
Moulds- Amazon.ca There’s lots of options. I got mine for $19.99, quick delivery.
Citric Acid -Amazon.ca
Baking soda and cornstarch are super easy to find at any Dollar store, grocery store etc.
Vanilla scented epsom salts-I found these at my local Walmart (Equate brand) but you can use any sort of epsom salt you want
Orange Essential Oil-Walmart
Soap Colouring- Michael’s Crafts…you can also find lots of options on amazon and can use mica powders also
Sweet Almond oil- Walmart
Making the bath bombs:
Step 1:
Literally just mix all of the DRY ingredients into a bowl together….so baking soda, citric acid, epsom salt, corn starch all mixed thoroughly into a bowl.
Step 2:
Next, mix your wet ingredients into another bowl. BUT, I have found that because oil and water do not mix, you will want to mix your soap colouring into your water before you add it to the oils.
You will now want to mix up all your essential oil and sweet almond oil (or whatever you chose to use) and then add your water and colour into a separate bowl.
Repeat by mixing all the wet ingredients together very thoroughly…it may not look 100% uniform because…you know oil and water but that’s okay.
Step 3:
Now you are going to slowly add the wet mixture to the dry mixture. It will bubble a little because of the citric acid, just pour liquid more slowly (literally a few drops at a time) and mix quickly into the powder mixture.
Step 4:
Use your hands to knead the mixture together. I love this part.( If you don’t like the feeling on your hands….invite your kids with thoroughly washed and dry hands to enjoy the sensory experience)
Step 5:
Once the mixture is kneaded, pack into the moulds firmly.
Step 6:
Allow to set for approx. 15 mins and then gently un-mould and place on a lined cookie sheet to dry overnight. (I left a batch in the moulds overnight and they would not come out)
Step 7:
Enjoy your bath bombs or prepare for gifting 🙂
